GDC 2008 First day at a glance

It was a pretty slow day today, I just went to the one summit. From what I can tell, not much will be going on here until Wednesday when the Expo starts. Well, not much press wise I should say. There were a whole bunch of very informative summits for the aspiring and independent game developers attending. The only booth that was open for business was the Intel booth, where they had some pretty tight things on display.

These laptops were running Crysis using intergated Intel graphics chips, pretty damn impressive if you ask me.

Of course, Guitar Hero III made it’s appearance, also running on laptops.

And the coolest thing I saw all day, the TDVisor by TDVision Systems, Inc. These 3D stereoscopic goggles offered a level of immersion I had never experienced before. The images viewed through the goggles were amazing. They offered a sense of depth in the images, without headache inducing distortion or motion sickness usually felt with stereoscopic goggles. I’m gonna get an audio interview with the company’s PR person tomorrow, so expect to hear more about this on a future episode of the w0rd.

I also met some cool people. Most noteably Mr. Alex Petraglia of Primotech, who not only hooked me up with some kick ass info, but also tossed me some web traffic as well. What a super guy, right?
I also chatted a while with GoNintendo’s RawMeatCowboy and Nicky Hill. He was laughing at the fact that the whole back row of computers in the press lounge were running WordPress blogs.
Finally at the end of the day I chatted with a couple of game design students, one from Los Angeles, one from Georga. Their preferred platform of choice? PC of course!!

Anyways, I gotta get to bed, want to get an early start for tomorrow!
