Announcing Puzzle Quest: Galactrix

Puzzle Quest Galactrix

Big news for fans of D3Publisher’s RPG-Puzzle game mash-up, Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. A sequel is on the way! This time around the game is sporting a sci-fi theme. Check after the break for more pictures.

I was able to meet with Tim Ramage, Senior Producer on the project and he gave me a quick rundown on the game’s plot, systems, and gameplay. Now keep in mind this is all tentative information because as of right now, the game is roughly 20 percent though development.

Galactrix will sport a hexagonal puzzle board with gravity based gameplay. What do I mean by this exactly? Well, where the pieces slide in from is decided where you make your combos.

In fact, during the demonstration, I saw some pretty big chains scored as there were pieces coming in from all directions. The gravity depends on weather or not you’re in outer space, and in some cases, the planet you’re on. This offers a fresh new twist on the already addictive gameplay the original offered.

You will have an armada of ships at your command, but you can only go in to battle with one. The little blue-green bar in front of your ship (represented in the top left hand corner) represents your shield health, and the number at the to of the shield bar represents your ship’s health.

There are also plans for robust Diplomacy and Commodity systems to play around with as well. More info about these will come at a later date.

The game takes place in a future where the earth is run entirely by mega corporations and dares to ask the question, “What if humans had no soul?” Not much more info was given on the plot. However, they did include this pretty sweet concept art piece with the press materials. It’s called a Scavenger.

Galactrix is coming soon to PC, Xbox 360 Live Arcade, and Nintendo DS
